EnerSys buys lithium-ion battery maker
Industrial battery maker Energy's said Monday that it purchased
lithium-ion laptop battery maker ABSL Power Solutions Ltd. to diversify its
technology base and boost investments in lithium systems. Terms of the
deal were not disclosed.
ABSL supplies cells and laptop batteries for defense and aerospace applications and has annual revenue of more than $30 million, EnerSys said. ABSL has supplied batteries for more than 70 space satellite systems and for portable communication systems used by soldiers.
EnerSys bought the company from CIP Industries LP. EnerSys Chairman and CEO John D. Craig said in a statement the company believes lithium toshiba laptop batteries will be a significant growth source, complementing existing businesses in lead and nickel-based batteries.
Shares of EnerSys climbed 35 cents to $35.45 in afternoon trading.
